It is a baked structure that is just sufficiently pigmented and super long-lasting.

Tip:
Apply bronzer to those areas of your face where you would also be tanned first by the sun; your forehead, nose and chin. When applying it, draw a number 3 on your face, as it were.
During the summer, feel free to choose a shade darker than in the winter, precisely because your skin is usually a bit more tanned by then.
